Race Report: The Sussex Loops

Reports

After two weeks of hill walking (bagging another 17 munros to be precise) and minimal running, I completed the LDWA’s Sussex Loops challenge the day after my return on Sunday 4th August.

The challenge is comprised of, as the name suggests, three loops with up to 3,250ft of ascent. All three loops start from Forest Row Village Hall and explore the surrounding countryside including Ashdown Forest. The southerly loop is completed first, followed by the north loop and then culminating with the west loop. Competitors have 11 hours to complete all three (31 miles) or just one or two loops.

The day started off overcast and running through Ashdown Forest was just perfect. Then the sun came out and it became a little warm. Hard ground underfoot, but lovely scenery and it was good to be out running again.

The fastest time was by Piers Baxley White in 5:32. I finished fourth in 6:21. As always, great volunteers and well stocked aid stations. A good event.
