Race Report – KGP Canterbury Half Marathon

Lean but Keen Team Take on Canterbury Hills!

Another Bank Holiday equals another KGP Race, running through the lovely scenic East Kent countryside around Canterbury. A lollipop course with, did I say a few hills, chucked in for good measure.  And, it says it all when one Harrier said “Never seen an ambulance at the top of a hill before…. ”

Well, our lean but very keen team of deckchairs (8 men and 4 ladies) decided to take on the lollipop challenge, an out-and-back course with an undulating first half and the infamous hill at 11 miles, which I (and a few others) will admit to walking up.  The course has remained the same for quite a few years, this was my third time, and the organisation and marshaling was top-notch

In total 388 runners completed the undulating scenic course, which was won by our very own Liam White (Tunbridge Wells Harriers) in 74:06, CONGRATULATIONS and the first lady home was Hannah Roberts (Dartford Harriers) in 89:34.

Harrier Results (Individual times listed below)

So, my first KGP race as your new Captain thanks to everyone who ran today. Not quite sure what happens with who writes the race report when your team numbers don’t match the date (29th), so sorry you have to accept this from me . Liam White (1st) cruised home in 74:06 followed by Keith Mitchel (16th) in 85:44, and then David Weston (23rd) in 87:19. For our ladies Emily Nash (46th) was first in 94:40, and 3rd lady overall, CONGRATULATIONS, followed by Joy Croucher (268th) in 134:41, and then Lucille Joannes (289th) in 138:29. Congratulation to all, there were some great achievements out there today.

So, with six races (out of eight) complete, here’s where our teams currently stand in the KGP (give or take a few points)…

 Men (first six to score)

  1. Tunbridge Wells Harriers       2,516
  2. Ashford & District RR               2,225
  3. Petts Wood Runners                1,840
  4. Orpington Road Runners         1,639
  5. Maidstone Harriers                  1,472

Ladies (first four to score)

  1. Tunbridge Wells Harriers 762
  2. Petts Wood Runners                722
  3. Tonbridge AC                          528
  4. Maidstone Harriers                  528
  5. Ashford & District RR               475

Thanks again to all those that ran, remember it is always great to have a minimum team of ten (six men and four ladies) to collect the maximum KGP points, which count towards the team scores.  But, as always the more harriers the merrier as you take points away from the competition.

What’s next and how can you sign-up?

Thanks for your support
