Beckenham Relays 2018

Reports

Last night TWH attended The Beckenham Relays in force, with eleven teams completing the challenging 2.6 Mile course around the local Park. In the three years that we have been attending this event we have watched as the standard just seems to improve year by year with many of the more well known top level clubs joining in the fun of Relay Races. It is worth noting that the friendliness and efficiency of the organising team is of top quality and their determination to maintain the event open to runners all standards must be applauded.

Our friends from Tonbridge duly won the event again this year, although they were given a fright when the first runner from Croydon Harriers (Peter Chambers) completed his run in an astonishing 12:48 giving his team a lead of 52 seconds. Tonbridge A.C. clawed back the deficit and eventually won by 8 seconds from Kent A.C. & Dulwich Runners. Croydon Harriers faded to 8th position just holding off our own Matt Ferris bringing home our leading team.

We were not to be denied a place on the podium when our Mixed Team of James Sarre, Harriet Woolley and Tom Woolley came home in overall 19th place and 3rd placed Mixed team.

It would be very remiss of me to leave anybody out of this short report so I have attached our results so everybody can see how they fared. I would, though, give honourable mentions to Javier Montoya Montero – TWH fastest male leg, (14:05), Harriet Woolley – TWH fastest ladies leg, (16:17) and Mr Paul Eames, making a return to competition after a number of years in the wilderness (playing cricket) and foregoing the wearing of his old Tunbridge Wells Runners vest.

I should also like to thank all of the runners who came along to fly the Harriers flag at this wonderful event and to Mike Jarvis for his support: another great evening for Tunbridge Wells Harriers.

119 Teams completed the event. Fastest Female Leg:- Amy Billups (South London Harriers) 15:48
