On Saturday I ran the Minotaur 50 mile ultra at Denbies Wine Estate which was organised by Phoenix Events. There were also other distances 100 mile, 75 mile, marathon and P24. This was my training run in preparation for Race to the Stones 100K in July and the furthest that I had ever run was 32 miles so I wasn’t sure how challenging it would be.
Tara Taylor’s mantra is just put one foot in front of the other. So kept that in mind.
The course was a scenic one mile loop around the Denbies Wine Estate on trail and grass paths with one upward incline followed by a sweeping downhill.
I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy mile laps but the miles ticked off much quicker than expected and I didn’t have to carry drinks or fuel as you could stop and refuel on whatever mile lap you chose to. The fuelling station was just by the start and had a wide range of water, squash, coke, crisps, savouries and sweets which worked well. Runners also brought their own cool boxes with supplies.
44 runners took part in the 50 miler.
1st Male. Gavin Meakings: 0:841:50
1st Female. Penny George: 0:951:46
2nd Female. Rose Sawyer: 0:11:13:21
