TWH XC Championships Race Report

Reports
Evening Harriers
On a very cold Saturday morning 54 Harriers (14 women and 40 men) as well as James Carter (the 9 year old son of Richard) lined up on the start line in Hargate Forest for the annual Club Cross Country Championships.
The usual course had to be amended slightly this year due to a number of path closures, sadly missing out the famed Canal Turn. However, after all the recent heavy rain, there was still more than enough mud to go around. The course was slightly shorter than usual but still featured three laps for the main field and two for the Super Vets categories (W65+ and M70+).
We were vey pleased to see such a large turnout including a lot of newer members, some of whom were making their first foray into cross country with the club. This was one of the hardest courses of the season and the cross country debutants should therefore be proud of their achievements.
Highlights from the racing included watching newcomer Mark Miller storming to overall victory despite the best efforts of Alex Jeffreys, who spent most of the race chasing him down. Amelie Karlsson led the women’s race by a significant margin to take the trophy for 1st Woman. Michele Bradshaw also made a surprise come back to racing and led the Super Vets from the start to secure the W65+ trophy.
Many thanks to all those came to support, including Amelie’s parents and Cordy Kent. Alan Collard kindly looked after the finish tokens whilest Adam Dennis and Phoebe Chan took care of the race photography.
George, Robin and Geoff Hurrell enjoyed the race so much that they offered to go around again and collect in the course markers. Thanks guys 🙂
Post race refreshments were enjoyed at the Nevill, Crest and Gun, kindly arranged by Robin Barwick, to belatedly celebrate George’s 50th birthday.
