Welsh Marathon

Reports

I took part and paraded the deckchair around the Welsh Marathon in Tenby. The marathon is one of several distance events on day 3 of the ‘Long Course Weekend’. Basically you can complete a full or half ironman but with each of the disciplines taking place on consecutive days, with each discipline being a free standing event, so you can enter one, two, or all three events at any of the available distances

It was hot and hilly. I was aiming to finish at somewhere around 4 hours, and with a half way time of 2.02 and feeling good, it seemed a good possibility. However, the second half was really tough and my finishing time slipped to 4.19.20, good enough for 2nd MV60.

The winning man was Gareth Petts in 2.47.56
The winning woman was Victoria Nealon in 3.18.28

Great event. Tenby really makes the most of this 3 day event. Organisation and support superb. Well worth considering for next year, and if you’re looking for a place to stay???????

There’s also the Welsh Ironman in September based in Tenby. They really know how to put on a show. There are also lots of long distance endurance running events in Wales that I’m beginning to hear about. A recent one was ‘5 ultras in 5 days’ along the backbone of the Cambrian Mountains. It was on television last night on SC4. The only problem was that it was all in Welsh!
